Born in Tijuana, Mexico and raised in Connecticut, Antonio Cuevas Ortiz has been making photographs since 2017.
“In 2020, I had this revelation that life moved a lot more in conjunction with itself than I had perceived. It was difficult to go back to a lifestyle that would overlook such a truth. Photography is my way of showing you that truth”
Antonio is a magical realist storyteller. The photos they make come from a holistic perspective, one that engages, observes, and preserves life’s moments as a focal point for introspection.
“I find the language we use for photography very funny. Words like ‘shoot, take, capture’. All words that infer that the relation between photographer and subject is that of a hunter and its prey. Photography (and art as whole) can also be an alchemical relationship. We transmute emotions from internal to external means, creating an experience that allows space for both artist and audience to heal ”
